William Lloyd Kelly, Jr.
William Bill Lloyd Kelly, Jr., 93, died Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Candler Hospital. He was born October 26, 1919 to the late William Lloyd Kelly, Sr. and Lula Howard Kelly. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army as the commander of an infantry cannon company with the 77th Division in Guam, the Philippines, and the Ryukyu Islands. Mr. Kelly retired as a Mechanical Engineer with the Professional Engineer Certification after 36 years of service with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District. He was a member of the American Legion Post 135 since 1946, and had held every office in that organization, including Past Commander. He chaired Boys State for over 50 years. Mr. Kelly was Past President of the Chatham Artillery, as well as Past President and Veteran of the Year for the Veteran's Council of Chatham County. He was a member of Bull Street Baptist Church and a nursing home volunteer.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Coralie Hinely Kelly, of Savannah, GA, daughter, Betty Jean Yarbrough, of Charlotte, NC, two sons, William Earl Kelly, of Martinez, GA, and John Carlton Kelly, of West Palm Beach, FL. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Morse, three grandchildren, Stan Yarbrough, of Charlotte, NC, Craig Yarbrough, of Melbourne, FL, and Catherine Cochran, of Clermont, FL. He had six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, August 16, 2013 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with the Rev. Earnie Pirkle and Rev. Bill Gardner officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with military honors.
